Abstract

A care environment that often involves patients from different cultural backgrounds. The ability to communicate in Japanese can play an important role in managing work stress and providing effective care. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between mastery of the Japanese language and the level of work stress in Japanese hospitals. The research method used is correlational analysis research method with cross sectional design and total sampling technique. The population in this study are Indonesian nurses who work in hospitals in Japan. The sample is 30 nurses. The instruments used were a Japanese language level questionnaire and a job stress questionnaire. The results of the study showed that nurses working at the hospital had an average Japanese level of N3 (intermediate level). The statistical test shows that there is a relationship between mastery of Japanese and the level of work stress of nurses in Japanese hospitals with the Pearson test results showing a moderate correlation with r 0.460 with a p value of 0.011. The conclusion of this study is that the lower the mastery of the Japanese language, the higher the level of work stress for nurses in Japanese hospitals
